Weekend Volunteers

Hi Sam, I thought I’d tell you about the community project I joined last weekend. A group of us from college got (0) INVOLVED in a neighbourhood clean-up and fundraising day. At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the organisers were really welcoming and soon everyone was working together. When I arrived, some volunteers (1) .......... posters in the main square, while others were setting up tables for donated books and clothes. A few local families brought toys that were still (2) .........., so they sold quickly and helped us raise more money than we had expected. What impressed me most was the way the organisers tried to encourage (3) .......... from local residents. They didn’t just want the same small group helping every time; they wanted people of all ages to feel included. Later, I was asked to (4) .......... leaflets about future events, which was a good chance to speak to neighbours I had never met before. By the end of the day, we had also (5) .......... up enough money to repair the playground benches. I realised that volunteering doesn’t just improve a place; it can also (6) .......... people together. If more teenagers (7) .......... part, our area would benefit even more.
