Everyday AI

Artificial Intelligence is no longer a distant idea from science fiction; it is now part of daily life. Many people use it without even realising it, from phone assistants to online shopping suggestions. As AI becomes more common, public opinion is still divided. Some people believe it will make life easier, while others worry that it may eventually (0) TAKE OVER too many tasks that humans currently do. In everyday conversation, AI often becomes a topic that people feel strongly about. Some workers say they are worried because they think new systems could (1) .......... them out of a job. Others, however, believe that AI will simply help with routine tasks and allow people to focus on more creative work. Businesses are also trying to (2) .......... up with competitors by adopting the latest tools. At the same time, some companies promise results that sound impressive, but these claims should be taken with a (3) .......... of salt. For students and office workers, AI can be useful when deadlines are close and they need to (4) .......... up on research quickly. Still, it is important not to believe everything at (5) .......... value. Experts often point out that even advanced systems can make mistakes. In the end, society will need to (6) .......... a balance between innovation and caution. If we ignore the risks, problems may (7) .......... up later. For now, the smartest approach is to keep an open mind and not jump to (8) .......... too soon.

What to do

In this part, you read a text with eight gaps and choose the best word from four options to fit each gap.

Nothing prepares you for this test better than reading.

Read a lot. Candidates who often read in English (for work, for fun) find this part of the test manageable, while those who never read tend to find it very hard.

If you are 100% sure that two of the 4 choices are completely identical, then neither can be the answer. There is always only one word that fits grammatically and has the right meaning.

Usually the correct option will be part of a fixed phrase or collocation, a phrasal verb, a connector or the only word that fits grammatically in the gap.

Strategy

  1. Read the title and the whole text quickly to understand its general meaning before you attempt the task.
  2. Check the words before and after the gap.
  3. Choose the best option.
  4. When you have finished, read the text again with the words inserted to check that it makes sense.
