AI in Everyday Life

Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic idea; it has (0) BECOME part of everyday life. From phone assistants to translation apps, AI is now used in ways that would have sounded like science fiction a decade ago. However, the topic can be confusing, and it’s easy to get the wrong (1) .......... of what AI can actually do. Some people think it will solve every problem (2) .......... of the box, while others fear it will take over all jobs overnight. In reality, most systems are designed for specific tasks and can’t simply (3) .......... up new skills without training. In the workplace, AI can take (4) .......... repetitive jobs, freeing people to focus on creative work. But companies also need to be careful not to (5) .......... corners when it comes to safety and privacy. If they do, the results can (6) .......... back on them, damaging trust. For individuals, the best approach is to keep an open mind and (7) .......... an eye on how the technology is used. If we talk about AI calmly and honestly, we can (8) .......... the most of its benefits without ignoring the risks.

What to do

In this part, you read a text with eight gaps and choose the best word from four options to fit each gap.

Nothing prepares you for this test better than reading.

Read a lot. Candidates who often read in English (for work, for fun) find this part of the test manageable, while those who never read tend to find it very hard.

If you are 100% sure that two of the 4 choices are completely identical, then neither can be the answer. There is always only one word that fits grammatically and has the right meaning.

Usually the correct option will be part of a fixed phrase or collocation, a phrasal verb, a connector or the only word that fits grammatically in the gap.

Strategy

  1. Read the title and the whole text quickly to understand its general meaning before you attempt the task.
  2. Check the words before and after the gap.
  3. Choose the best option.
  4. When you have finished, read the text again with the words inserted to check that it makes sense.
