AI in the Classroom

Artificial intelligence is (0) BECOMING a familiar part of education, from grammar-checking tools to apps that create practice tests. Supporters say AI can help teachers by taking (1) .......... routine tasks, such as marking short quizzes, and by offering students instant feedback. However, the real impact depends (2) .......... how schools use it. If students rely on AI to do their homework, they may stop thinking for themselves. On the other hand, when AI is used (3) .........., it can encourage independent learning: a student can ask for extra explanations, get examples at the right level, and practise until they feel confident. Teachers also need to be careful about accuracy. AI sometimes produces answers that sound convincing but are (4) .......... wrong. That is why many schools are teaching students to check sources and to (5) .......... information before trusting it. There are also concerns about fairness. Not every family can (6) .......... the latest devices or paid software, so schools must make sure technology does not (7) .......... the gap between students. In the end, AI is a tool: it can save time and open new possibilities, but only if it is used with (8) .......... and clear rules.

What to do

In this part, you read a text with eight gaps and choose the best word from four options to fit each gap.

Nothing prepares you for this test better than reading.

Read a lot. Candidates who often read in English (for work, for fun) find this part of the test manageable, while those who never read tend to find it very hard.

If you are 100% sure that two of the 4 choices are completely identical, then neither can be the answer. There is always only one word that fits grammatically and has the right meaning.

Usually the correct option will be part of a fixed phrase or collocation, a phrasal verb, a connector or the only word that fits grammatically in the gap.

Strategy

  1. Read the title and the whole text quickly to understand its general meaning before you attempt the task.
  2. Check the words before and after the gap.
  3. Choose the best option.
  4. When you have finished, read the text again with the words inserted to check that it makes sense.
