For Questions 1-8, read the text below and decide which answer best fits each gap.

Feeding the Future

Food security is one of the biggest challenges the modern world (0) FACES. Although the planet produces enough food in total, millions of people still go hungry because food is not always grown, transported and shared in a fair way. In some regions, farmers struggle to make a living because of poor soil, rising costs and extreme weather. In others, food is wasted on a huge (1) .......... before it ever reaches shops or homes.   2. Check the words before and after the gap.
  3. Choose the best option.
  4. When you have finished, read the text again with the words inserted to check that it makes sense.
