While some people perform better under pressure, others may suffer (2) .......... anxiety, self-doubt, or even fear of failure. In schools and workplaces, competition can encourage people to compare themselves (3) .......... others too often. As a result, they may begin to focus less on personal progress and more on whether they are doing better (4) .......... everyone else. This can damage confidence, especially if success seems out of reach. On the other hand, competition can also teach valuable lessons. People may learn how to cope (5) .......... disappointment, how to recover from mistakes, and how to keep going even (6) .......... results are not immediate. Much depends (7) .......... the environment: healthy competition can inspire growth, whereas constant pressure can lead to stress. For this reason, experts suggest that competition should be balanced with cooperation, so that people do not define themselves only (8) .......... winning or losing.
