There is little doubt that automation is making rapid (0) INROADS into agriculture, a sector once assumed to depend above all on human judgement and physical stamina. From GPS-guided tractors to milking robots and sensor-based irrigation, new systems are being introduced on the (1) .......... that they will increase efficiency while reducing waste. Advocates argue that such tools can free farmers from repetitive tasks, allowing them to (2) .......... their attention to planning, soil health and long-term resilience. Critics, however, warn that the transition may come at a cost. Smaller farms can struggle to keep (3) .......... with the capital required to adopt sophisticated machinery, and workers may find their traditional skills increasingly (4) .......... . There is also the question of data: once every movement of livestock and every fluctuation in moisture levels is recorded, farmers may become dependent on platforms whose workings remain largely (5) .......... to them.
